IRISH REGIMENTS OF THE BRITISH ARMY DISBANDED IN 1922
In 1996, as the result of much help from the Military History Society of Ireland for The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, The Royal Munster Fusiliers Regimental Association and The Connaught Rangers Museum, the drums of all three were copied in our miniature replica version.
We have just had exciting news from an old friend of Regimental Replicas who works in the National Museum Dublin. With the opening of the National Museum's annexe in Collins Barracks, many items from their Military Collection store have emerged into the light of day, including two drums from the 18th Foot, the original Royal Irish Regiment, another of the disbanded Regiments. One is a 1st Battalion bass drum and the other is a 2nd Battalion side drum. Tentative plans have been made for Sue O'Neil Roe, Regimental Replicas' director, to visit Dublin in November this year to take photographs, notes and colour matches and it is hoped that this new design will be available as Drum Ice Buckets and Framed Emblazons early in 2004.
We still need access to a Leinsters drum to complete the series, for we already know that the only cavalry regiment disbanded in 1922, The South Irish Horse, never had emblazoned drums during its short life. If anyone has one, please let us know! |
